Warehouse management system

Software that knows where each unit sits, down to the shelf, and guides stock in, put-away, picking, packing and dispatch.

Also called WMS, warehouse management software, inventory and warehouse software

A warehouse management system, or WMS, tracks stock by location rather than as one total. Every unit has a place: a zone, a rack, a shelf or a bin. The system tells the team where to put new stock away, where to pick each order from, and what to count.

Without one, people walk the aisles looking for items, the same product sits in three places nobody remembers, and counts drift from what the books say. Orders go out late or wrong, and stock that expires is found after its date.

A store with a back room and an online shop receives 40 cartons on Monday. The WMS gives each a shelf, then turns the day's 120 orders into one pick list sorted by aisle, oldest batch first. Kownt X WMS does this on a phone, without special scanners.
